WARREN ELLIS: CAPTURED GHOSTS
Dive into the mind of “Internet Messiah” Warren Ellis, a comic book writer / alt culture thinker who’s writing our future everyday. This film features extensive interviews with Ellis himself, some of his closest friends and collaborators, as they ponder the myth and the man behind some of the wildest ideas in comics today!
This film is the followup to the critically acclaimed Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods, which was hailed as “an instant classic” by Wired, and “the most inspirational picture on the state of the creative imagination in the 21st Century” by the Seattle Post Globe.
The film features the most extensive interview Ellis has ever given, and spans his life from his first memory watching the moon landing as a child to his recent cross-media success with the film adaptation of Red (starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, and Helen Mirren). Along the way, Ellis’s acerbic wit and core belief in humanity comes across like never before.
Complementing Ellis’s own words are interviews with his artistic collaborators, friends and admirers, including Darick Robertson, Joe Quesada, Matt Fraction, Molly Crabapple, Jeff Newelt, Phil Jimenez and many more. The film features numerous ambient interludes that spotlight Ellis’s prose and writing from both his online columns and his comics.
The film was shot over the course of 2010 and 2011 in England, San Diego and New York, and is in post production now. It will be completed by the summer, released theatrically in the Fall with a Winter 2012 DVD release to follow.
